Default Misfiring???

Hei guyz! Can someone tell me about misfire? First of all what is it exactly? Is it good or bad?? If its bad how can i fix and where?? How much will it cost???

Can someone help please?!!!

Could be spark plugs. They cause misfiring if they are fouled or dirty. Stuffed headgasket, poor compression list goes on. Pretty much a misfire is when your engine is ment to be combusting in its chamber but instead doesnt put the air/fuel mixture into the chamber. (not sure if it DOESNT or if its the wrong mix, but even then if its the wrong mix, it would either lean or run rich ey?). Bit of clarrification would be good by a tech head

Depends what it is as to what caused it. This obviously makes it hard to tell how much it will cost. Sorry.

EDIT: If its any peace of mind, my mates WQ (i think) statesman was misfiring. Put new leads on her, and it was all good!

misfires are bad.

a misfire is when the ignition spark that facilitates the combustion process doesn't happen or happens at an incorrect time.

A misfire can be caused by many things. Old spark plugs that are not functioning correctly would probably be the most common cause of a misfire. A misfire can also be caused by incorrect gapping on the spark plug. Faulty or poorly earthed ignition coils can also also cause misfires in a perfectly new spark plug.

We need more information from you if we can give advice on how to fix it and how much it might cost.

myztik, firstly have you got a WRX or are you talking about your ass after a big curry night ?

If you have a WRX, does it have Neons and a 115GW flux capacitor in the drivers door

Maybe you tell us if you have a WRX, year, full list of mods with brand names, recently items replaced, service history. Phase of the moon etc.

We are not mind readers nor witchdoctor mystics that can diagnose your problem just by reading the tea leaves. How about we sacrifice a goat to see if your mis firing goes away. Do you rekon that will help ?

im not too sure myself...because i got an RAC Inspection on a MY00 WRX and i just received the report and on it it said something bout misfiring;

Further investigation required, Misfiring under acceleration, Misfiring under load, Stalls on acceleration

Thats all i got about misfiring from the report...and about the mods and their names and service history... i cannot get my hands on them right now

Sounds like spark plug leads to the coilpack to be honest.

Sounds more like a problem with the AFM. A common culprit on the My99/00 WRXs.

Yeah I had trouble with MissFire one time, but I just stood back and hosed her after I finished and it was Ok again.

myztik, does you car idle at a steady 600rpm +-50rpm ?

If it does not and hunts up and down at idle try this:

Turn the car off and then dis-connect your Air Flow Meter Plug from the black plastic intake pipe. This is just before the Accordian pipe bend that leads into the intake pipe to the turbo.

Start the car again (Check engine light will be on). Now if you get a rock steady 600 RPM idle its a dirty Air Flow Meter problem. The AFM can be cleaned with CRC Contact cleaner.

The AFM's on 99/00 WRX's do not like getting dirty and especially hate oiled filters.
