basically just a volume setting(correct if im wrong) one will vent to atmo more than the other and will be louder which in turn you will recive more attension from the police

Not a volume setting. It sets the firmness of the spring i.e. at what boost pressure it will fully open up.

If you set it full soft, it means the spring is "soft" and the BOV will go off at the touch of the throttle. If you set it full hard, it means the spring is "hard" and it will only vent on full boost.

An atmo venting BOV will f*ck with your fuel economy too if you're still running an airflow meter.

Which model is it? ie vee port, dual port etc?

Hard and soft could be referring to the spring settings. A harder spring setting is more likely to cause compressor surge so you get the flutter sound that some people like as the pressure cant be released fast enough so it slows the compressor wheel down and as the blades slip in the air you get the sound. It can put unwanted stress on the turbo though.

A soft setting would mean the BOV opens easier and hence vents the pressure more effectively, not causing surge so you just get the pshh sound.

Alternatively could be as lebrunt said if its the dual port

Correct me if I'm wrong?

Yeah plenty to learn mate haha dont worry I've only had my rex for a few months and its my first turbo car. Just read heaps

Go to the GFB website www.gofastbits.com.au it tells you how to set up the bov correctly and even has some videos of how to do it. I know its not a GFB BOV but the principle is the same. Basically if you stab the throttle at idle, when you take your foot off, you should see the little piston inside the BOV open and then close. If it closes just before the engine reaches idle again, it's set properly. You adjust this by adjusting the spring tension. Check out the videos its easier when you see it.

BOV's will only attract unwanted attention from the wrong people.

I think its a personal choice. I have an atmos one atm and its very loud. Im actually thinking of getting a second cap for it and hopfully will make it become a plumb back. After a while (you will know what im talking about in about 6 months) an atmos BoV gets annoying. Specially when you have a headache from the night before and all you can hear is your wastegate coming through your pod and you BoV Venting hardcore
