GT2835 owners

For those lucky few who have a 2835 on hand, i have a few questions.

Seeing as they are twin entry would it be adviseable to go with a twin scroll header system?

Is there a up pipe that can convert a normal manifold to twin entry?

Is the dump pipe flange as per twin scroll vf series or old skool VF series?

IF a complete twinscroll conversion is NEEDED, where's the best place to source aftermarket bits and what do i need.

thanks

Jme

BALISTC 08-11-2007 03:29 PM

Jme, would definitely be worth getting a twin scroll header and up-pipe...even though its not twin scroll, IMHO it would improve spool because of the optimised exhaust pulses going into the turbo.

Heaps of guys with Mazda rotaries use twin entry turbos, and feed one exhaust runner from each rotor, into each entry of the turbo. It works well.

For a twin scroll conversion, you need the twin scroll sump and dipstick, plus headers and up-pipe. I reckon a Subaru header and a custom up-pipe to suit the HKS turbo would be a good option.

BALISTC 08-11-2007 03:34 PM

Got any pics of the turbo?

Here is a thread on NASIOC re: the HKS GT2835. They claim its a twin scroll, but some say they are twin entry.

Sethor 08-11-2007 03:46 PM

Jamie, if you don't wanna go thru the troubles of doing a twinscroll conversion do HKS sell the GT2835 as a bolt on option for single scroll Subaru's but they have a lower HP rating as the single scroll exhaust hosuing is slightly smaller.

Twin scroll conversion requires you to change the sump, turbo mount, extractors, & dump.

It would have to be a custom job if wanted a up pipe to go from single to twin scroll, but with a twinscroll turbo you still have to change the turbo mount and dump (flanges are not the same). I see no point buying the twin scroll turbo if your not going to take advantage of equal length headers etc, you would be better off just buying single scroll version which would be a direct bolt on for a WRX/STi.

American Dave 08-11-2007 03:47 PM

no highjack Jme but if you get this right mate it will def the quickest daily driver Lib in town

EXPLICIT 08-11-2007 03:51 PM

Yeah noticed on the other thread most of the bits we're sourced from japanparts.com, i already have a dump on the way, will just have the flange changed to suit the turbine housing and go the twinscroll conversion. No point doing it in halves.

WRXTASY 08-11-2007 06:53 PM

JME

I'm 99.9% sure you already have the Correct sump and Dipstick on the Libbo EJ257 engine for the twin scroll headers.

Becoming a popular turbo the ol' GT2835... :D

Huy 08-11-2007 08:31 PM

Haha! There's you, Lewis, me, and now Jamie. ;) Gonna dish some chop! How is yours going? Going back in for decaps and fmic?

The headers/up-pipe/dump are all Tomei pieces. Beautiful stuff.

Na, going to stick with the TMIC for now, the water spray seems to keep temps down, might do the injectors at some stage though...

I'm looking forward to seeing Jme's car done, not too many hot Lib's around at the moment!!

I've been in touch with James (HKS guy) as I've got 2 more guys chasing this turbo, he has 3 on the way.

When is your car going in?

Sorry for hijacking thread by the way :)

Huy 08-11-2007 09:12 PM

26th of November it goes in for part installation. I forgot i need a turbo mount bracket...Dammit! I knew i had forgotten something.

James has been great. I would highly recommend him. Who else wants a 2835? :p

Turbo arrived today WOOHOO!!!

Huy 12-11-2007 12:36 PM

Runs!!!

stinga 12-11-2007 01:15 PM

What are you going to do for a tune Jamie?

EXPLICIT 12-11-2007 02:22 PM

Leaning towards custom tek tune. Just finalising some details. Looking to do a tgv delete, so i'd like to flash out any errors this may cause etc. Canbus also means the entire car literally runs through the ecu. Motec is an option but for my requirements isnt viable for the 5k outlay. I did source the bits to fit a haltech, so i'll make the decision when im closer to the date of installation which won't happen till after the new year anyway.

trainwrex 12-11-2007 02:30 PM

they havent got the verso sorted yet jme???

i think for basic ish mods that u cant go past the tek or verso as they drive sooo smoothly...

motec of course can be done the same but the amount of dyno time prolly 20-50 hours on and off is hard to justify..

American Dave 12-11-2007 03:21 PM

No Verso option for Si Drive cars yet and WA Ecutek dealers still don't have the hardware to tune Si Drive cars either.

EXPLICIT 12-11-2007 04:39 PM

You can get a tek end of this month Dave if you're desperate :D. I've had discussions with Wisby at Maximums for the mods i have in mind. Turbo, manifolds, injectors, pump and custom cooler setup is within limits. My biggest concern is CEL's that can't be removed. Cross that bridge when i get to it. The beauty of being greenhorn when playing with virgin models!

The motec wouldn't be a complete standalone tho. Purely just intercept the fuel/timing/boost/DBW/avcs parametres and leave the rest as per oem. This wouldn't upset cold start, ac settings etc etc. But as mentioned its a 5K+ exercise. On a dedicated race when i could use all the options wouldn't give it a second thought, but its a daily and smooth driveability is priority.

American Dave 12-11-2007 04:50 PM

Interesting because MRT Sales Mgr told me over the phone that their planned road trip for first tuning of Libos would likely not be until the new year now.

jEstEr? 13-11-2007 12:08 AM

Jme, my car doesnt have TGVs, yours definately does ?

EXPLICIT 13-11-2007 07:32 AM

Fairly certain all post 05 libbo's have tgv's. I've gotta pull the engine cover and have a look.

Dave, we are talking MRT here, since when have they ever been accurate let alone base anything on fact LOL. Tek crew were here two weeks ago at RT and MMS doing a batch of libbo tunes, apparently the tek software will be here end of november.

Bruce 13-11-2007 07:41 AM

Jaime,

Great read thus far on the "exec express" project!

once you have your self sorted, would be great to look at a list of mods leading to some pre & post power runs. pls don't forget us!

cheers,

Sorry to use your thread, Jme, but do you guys know if this is the correct bracket? It's the last piece i need (i hope!)
It says it for a Ver8, though. Or is it same same?

Huy, the description states that it is for twin scroll so I assume its correct.
