Glazed bores?
What does it mean exactly?
My 207 is substantially down on power. Someone said it may have glazed bores due to not being run in correctly. I ran it in with a 4k rev limiter and booted it as much as i could within that range and drove to york and back from perth totalling 1200 k's roughly. Then a Retune. The workshop that installed the short block said it will be down on power due to being new and tight. Fair enough. Anyway its been about 10k now and i put a new TD05 Monster port on it at a different workshop and the dyno report came back rather sad. Three things were suggested, possible wrong head gasket causing low comp, possible cam timing out or possible glazed bores. I will be taking to the same workshop to get it sorted, but was just curious, if it is glazed bores, what is entailed to fix it?

engine apart and bores honed to deglaze them

Honed bores are caused by rich tune and light load break-in.
How rich is your tune? Did you let the car idle for an excessive period of time during break in? |

City driving, idling at red lights but thats about it.
and the york trip sat at about 3-3.5k rpm. 150 k's each way. And i presume a run in tune would be fairly rich? I never got a dyno print out from my post run in tune.

why would a run in tune be rich? should be like a standard tune. Unless it is using oil or has low compression i would check valve timing? have you had the engine right across the rev range? when running in a engine it is good to not let it sit at the same rpm for too long, though most people dont have a problem with it. It's just when you leave the running in oil in there for ages.

It was ages ago, i honestly wouldn't know. I presumed it would be rich because rich normally means safe. and the oil got changed when the second tune got done, then every 5000ks.
So how could the valve timing be out? the belt off one notch or something?

Just regarding running in new cars:
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm (sorry if this has been posted before). I was of the same thinking as most that should break in an engine slowly (i.e. under 4k for 1000-odd km)- did so with my new Pulsar. But seems may not be the case? Thoughts?

you need to gradualy build up the rpm by the end of ~800km build it up to the redline. though many people never take their engines this far and they are fine. never leave the engine at the same speed for long periods and put it under moderate load to help the rings bed in. Also, 4k is a lot different for a small engine compared to a long stroke engine.
I do agree with that website, on bedding in a engine, valve timing could be out a tooth, and this would affect performance.

Alright thanks for that. just seeing what the worst case scenario would be.
Will find out shortly, heres hoping for cam timing!..
