Massive oil loss
Hey guys, Was drving my car yesterday arvo, came hard out of a corner in second heard a clunk a massive smoke cloud and trail of oil about 200 meters long. I think lost most of it. Opened the bonnet and entire RHS of the engine was covered in oil most around the turbo area all the way to the back of the car.
Car starts but idles very rough and there is no more boost or power bieng produced. Car is getting towed to Bluestar tommorow. Anyone ever had a similar experience? and what was the problem?? open to any suggestions here. Going to degrease the entire car now MY00 GT Forester 156000 VF23 Slako Unichip

Sorry i should have write that a bit diffrently. I started it for like 1 second just to see if it would turn over, this was after i got it towed home. No power and boost was as it was all unfolding. Was about 5 - 10 seconds from the time of the clunk till i turned her off. It did start normally tho, didnt have to crank it just tunred over first pop

I'd go down to bunnings, buy a whole heaps of them degreaser cans, and clean the whole engine bay. fill it up with cheap oil (still decent oil, not povo homebrand oil). and see if it leaks under no pressure. if it doesnt, turn it over and see where it sprays from.

Or after cleaning you might see a great big hole somewhere...

Well, the only external oil lines around the turbo is the turbo oil feed line and the turbo oil drain line.
If it were the drain line, it wouldnt cause oil to be sprayed all over the engine bay as the oil draining out of the turbo is no longer under any pressure. A split drain line would just leak fairly quickly out of the bottom of the engine bay. Pretty good bet its the oil feed going to the turbo. One of the banjo bolts holding the oil line onto either the turbo or head may have popped or maybe one of the crush washers sealing the banjo bolt may have given way. Assuming the oil feed line is gone, your turbo may have been starved of oil long enough to damage the bearings and seals. It would explain the rough idle and lack of boost. Did the oil pressure light activate on the dash cluster during this incident? Hopefully, if not, your engine is okay and you just need a new turbo and oil lines. Clean the inside of the intake of all the oil that sprayed in there from a blown turbo oil seal. Worst case scenario is that you lost too much oil pressure with your right foot buried and you've spun the crankshaft bearing. New Engine time.

well i cleaned the engine bay no apparent leaks from a visual inspection, The car fired up but conked out. I wont be trying to start it again. The oil light did come on yesterday just as i turned the car off from the initial incident. I think ill start calling around for half cuts tommorow and if it is worst case scenario ill do a transpant + ECU.
BTW the Ypipe is all clean doesnt look like any oil left the inside of the turbo
