Default Gearboxes

Hey all,

I have a 2003 my04, now the problem is that i bought it start of this year in automatic form. Im starting to become fustrated with the auto and want to swap to manual.

Now i have spent countless mins on the phone to dealerships who just want to rip me off. (ie 8-10 change over for the same model same colour with 50-70k on it when mines only done 47k. Subaru ossy park) Second to that i would sell mine for what $27-29k real world todays market? Then have to go hunt for another not guaranteed to get another like mine with limited km's on it. Second to that having to spend another 3-4 on buying stamp duty all the rest.

I understand mechanicals and correct me if i'am wrong but it should be pretty easy just swapping the box, pedals and installing a clutch cable? I have had a poke around and everything is in the car already to mount pedals and the hole in the floor seams of ample size to put the manual shifter through.

Can it be done? Just making sure all will be sweet coz it will become modified to a resonable state ones this is done. I have a mechanic mate that i havent informed yet but will help out no worrys at all.

Thank you for your time.

Simon

Search on Rexnet. It has been done. There is more to it than you think.

If you do go that way go the whole hog and get a hold of the 05-07 6 speed with DCCD and bigger shafts, diff, brembos. You will not regret the improvement. Cost a bit but the conversion won't be cheap might as well do it properly once.

wont need a clutch cable as they are hydraulic!!

but i guess the list would start:

gearbox
diff
clutch kit (clutch plate, pressure plate, flywheel)
master cylinder
slave cylinder
all the lines from the master cylinder to the slave
different shafts??
clutch pedal assembly
gearbox mount??

thats off the top of my head, there will probably be more that that!

the auto and manual comes with a little ecu unit (not the main ecu)
you'll need it from the donor car
you'll disable the abs if you don't swap this over
