Default Engine problem , possibly ECU

hey guys.. got a problem here

For those of you who dont know my car is a 02 BUG eye, STOCK with just small extras like turbo timer, boost guage, and muffler.

So im driving down tonkin hwy after work.. going down south from great eastern hwy. Just letting you know the road conditions, its extreamly windy , i feel as if my car is gonna get swept aside, shit blowing everywhere.. so after 2 to 3 minutes of driving at 70 ks i entered tonkin hwy from great eastern and i full foot the car on 3rd gear from about 60 ks to 120.

Now half way towards leach hwy going at about 90ks i put it in 4th and full throttled the car, all of the sudden my car jerks, looses power, then accelerates again. Its as if my car just bounced off the rev limiter once and the yellow engine warning light comes on.

IT freaked me out, but the car was and still seems to be running fine. And boosting properly. At the next set of traffic lights i did a 0- 100 sprint and it ran fine.. but while the car is trailing at 90 or so. i put it in 4th and slamed on the pedal it did the same thing, as if it bounced off the rev limiter, looses power then accelerates again and just repeats itself the whole time upon accelearting. If i had to put it in other words i'd say i'd full foot the car in 4th from 90 and upon reaching 110 or so it bogs out then accelerates again like fuel cutt. i tried full footing the car on 5th from 90 ks and about 120 it does the same, Just simply bogs out and accelerates again. Combined with the engine warning light coming on i assume its not a good thing

What kind of problem is this. My car as yet to do the 100 000 k service as it is due just of last week. As im new to the WRX having only owned it for 4 months, Could it possibly the windy weather just doing this making the car jerk because its going against to much force of air and the ECU just restricts the power due to strain on the gear box? or was it the cold reving earlier?. its the first time this has happen and the only difference i can think of is that it was extreamly windy weather. Maybe a engine or ECU problem i dont know about.

Any help would be appreciated.

whats maf? sorry im newb with all this stuff gonna have to talk to me like a 10 year old. alittle water,, hrmm i dont think so. but the more i read other threads and stuff im starting to think its ECU related. Maybe the ECU freaked out for some reason and fuel cut, becuase thats what it is when you slam it in the rev limiter and thats exactly how it felt.. but yeah only happend when i did it in 4th or 5th from 90 rolling..

With a 0 to 100 going up the gears it ran fine and is boosting well, oil has been checked as well as water. :S

The only thing i can think of .. is that the car was going against such a strong force of gail- like wind like giong up a extreamly steep hill with such low power on 4th and more in 5th that the ECU freaked out and fuel cut.. boged out as such. That would explain why doing a sprint to 0 - 100 was no problem? Maybe too much air intake.

But yeah hoping somebody out there can shed some light on this.
Thanks for your time

if it was fuel cut, you really would know its like driveing into a wall for a split sec!!

maf sensor works your air to your fuel ratio if water or too much air for instance gets in there it can and will knacker it up esp water as it will fry it!!

your maf sensor is just before your air filter have you got a aftermarket cone type filter on it???

if so you could of just got a little water in it??

but fuel cut honestly its really bad it really feels like you have just slammed into a wall i know coz my99 turbo did it 3 times when i put a mini scoop on it without an undertray, rain in britain lol!!!

Although its unusual to have this happen on a car with just a muffler mod.

Did it happen immediately after putting your foot down? Or did it happen once it was into full boost?

If it's only happening @ High RPM in 3rd, and particularly 4th and 5th .. Boost Cut mate.

And if that is the case, it must be boosting damn high too 17psi+

You have flashed up a CEL (yellow warning light) so go and get it read by a workshop/Subaru. That will tell you exactly what the problem is.

Sounds like you have just experienced boost cut (maybe fuel cut) but there may be an underlying problem causing the CEL to pop up.

Get it checked out at a workshop as soon as you can.
