Default What is a EGT guage?

Ive just found some defi guages for a decent price, but the package comes with a EGT guage (and a boost/oil temp).

Just wondering if someone can explain what egt guage is and if its worthwhile? Cars about to have some mods put on with verso, so figured i should put some guages on for peace of mind.

Please no "guages arnt necessary" comments etc.

Thanks!

Exhaust Gas Temperature gauge.

It allows you to see how hot the exhaust exiting your engine is. Indicates if you're running lean/rich i.e. the hotter the temps, the leaner you're running and vice versa.

Also great if you're running antilag to monitor your temps.

Anyone who does track work should run one, so you can see if you're exhaust temps are getting unsafe....extremely high temps can ruin valves and turbos.

Can't remember exactly what it is but in a thread somewhere I'm pretty sure Tuna said you want it to be in the 740-760 degree mark for optimum. I'm almost positive it's 700 and something. It'd take some looking up which I can't be assed doing but if you want to search through................

Also remember the gauges are not 100% accurate. It all depends on the location of the sensor, calibration of the sensor etc etc. Personally over 700 deg would indicate lean. (Iirc optimum is 670 deg).

Gauges are just wank though (explains why I have 4 of them )
