Supercharger for 2.0 & 2.5 EJ ?

who's in for a blown EJ?

Waste of time IMHO.

Autospeed tested one a while ago. Made 139kw at the wheels, and costs 7 grand for the kit.

American Dave 07-03-2008 03:22 PM

apparently this one will cost $4K but agree that it aint worth it if thats all its going make for you Joe.

*Stockers* 07-03-2008 04:00 PM

They are claiming 65 - 80% power gains.

Imagine those results on the 06/07 Impreza R (with the JDM n/a 2.0L that make 100 and something kw)

teejay 07-03-2008 04:07 PM

65-80% gain at one specific point or across the board?

Easy to make 80% more power in a s/c application at 1500 rpm but 15% more at 5000rpm.

*Stockers* 07-03-2008 04:23 PM

Indeed.

Be nice to make a simultaneous application, my car could do with 85% gain at 1500 rpm... :P

jEstEr? 07-03-2008 04:40 PM

why bother when they come factory turbo anyway, but good on em for trying

does anyone remember the yank kid who took off the turbo on his 05 sti and then supercharged it and made 35kw?

D3V1L 07-03-2008 04:48 PM

u can still run high boost and acheive massive amounts of power.

for just over $1200 i helped a mate supercharge an ej22 and ran some lowish boost through it and gove over 148 kw atw...and that was in a 4x4.....and for 1...i love the fact that you have all that torque when u need it down low...good for different applications....but for 7 grand would not be worth the paper its written on when they come out with turbo, especially not worth it if its just a road car...

oh yeah classic and farking funny thread LOL he spent a fortune on that project too!

devilfish 07-03-2008 04:50 PM

i'm trying to remember the figures for my charged VR6, stock i think it was about 170hp
with the vortech i think it was putting down about 260hp this was pretty low boost with no head work apart from a slightly fatter head gasket...

Plus Supercharges Sound AWSOME... expecially in a normally uncharged car....

Your realise these are aimed at NA, yeah?

Apparently my car makes about 83kw atw stock, so to push out 135kw-ish, i'd be rather happy.

But then again, would the costs of it make sense when you could just buy a WRX to start with? Probably not.

Haha yes!

Quality workmanship and all! That was the one with all the yucky red DIY painted bits yeah? Turned up to a dyno day after a big talk up?

Yeah I did. What I'm saying is I can understand s/c kits for cars like the commodore etc where no factory boosted option is available. But on a Subaru and for that money .. crackpipe.

*Stockers* 08-03-2008 11:02 AM

Some people like to be different. In fact, some people even pay money for it!

Evo2 08-03-2008 12:16 PM

Anyone seen that pic of the subaru running both s/c & turbo ?

I can't remember where i saw it......

So you would pay more to make less then a stock turbo EJ20?

Read the last line of what i said Teejay, and then STFU.

teejay 10-03-2008 10:59 AM

Take a breath and settle down child.

I misread what you said. Regardless, my point was that a N/A owner is better off doing a conversion then doing this. You would agree or disagree?

:D

Like i said, depends on the costs. I havent bothered to look into how much this would be. If it were significantly less than a conversion, then it might be worth it. But like i said previously, probably not.

Vortech style super chargers are a bit on the gay side for serious efforts at supercharging any car...

its essentially the front of a turbo driven by the crank and not exhaust gas, thus its still laggy, and has no where near the same sort of linear power delivery as say a lysholm SRM twin screw supercharger...

rootes style blowers are a tad better than the vortech but are still ineffecient compared to a twin screw..

saddly twin screws are noisy as hell, they sound insanely awesome, but you need ear plugs after a while, thus they're not really a viable option on a road going car..

Isnt that what you did?

Denver 18-03-2008 07:13 PM
