A/C Drain.
Has anyone ever done a dyno run with A/C on and then A/C off to actually see how much power the A/C steals?
And also the A/C drain is constant isnt it? Ie, compressor on is x ammount of loss no matter what fan speed or temperature dial setting. |
Haven't done a dyno run with it on/off .. but i don't think it's constant. When i've had it on in the past, i've been accelerating with my right foot in the same position, and then i feel it cut slightly.
So i believe it's a little smarter than that. I think i read somewhere too that when you start hitting high rpms, the ECU cuts it too. Either way though, you always feel a difference when you have it turned on. I reckon it steaks somewhere around 10kwatw. |
I know for my OEM ECU. once you go past 4500rpm the AC compressor is shut off.
Though it definitely makes for a very doughy car at traffic speeds. |
Yeah, thats the thermostat turning the compressor on or off. There's been rumors for years, 'oh its about x HP or x KW' and i imagine different compressors are different. just wondering if anyone's done it on a wrx, thats all. |
I'm on at ASG on thurs, if i remember i'll get sean to do one with it on.

I read a few years back people were removing alternator and A/C belts just for dyno comps to get an extra 7 or 8 hp lol. My dyno penis is the biggest in the universe haha *www.wildclaims.com/phizzle*
I thought the ECU would shut down the compressor at 90 or 95% throttle. Either makes sense. |
