You'd know if its a turbo by the plumes of white smoke out the back.

If will just be a vaccum line.

Take the IC off if you're inclined and as Clint said, check the lines around the turbo.

I had an issue with one of my lines, causing the turbo to overboost something wicked (line cut to wastegate actuator).

All sweet afterwards.

When you're running 18pound+ through it, they slip off. I've wire tired all my vacuum lines onto the nipples.

Digging up a very old thread but I didn't want to go starting another one

Just need some clarification

is a VF34/P20 small on a 2.5L 06 WRX motor with stock internals (assuming you have a bigger TMIC, injectors, silicon pipe, cai, etc etc)?

I ask as it seems like it'd be a good choice for a 95% dd 5% track car in the future without getting too crazy on power, Im just after a more "STI" feel from the motor (i.e. your head is snapped back, think ive gotten used to the current power/torque from the exhaust+tune).

Or is it better to bite the bullet and go TD05/06 with a little more lag for top end?

Just after advice is all guys (too many confusing opinions on the interweb).

Thanks,

Shane.

Probably considered by some here to be a bit on the small size...I ran this turbo on my MY06 XT and loved it....was good for 217kw @ hubs with 420nm. I found it to be more than enough mumbo on the street and quite capable of despatching most things off the line

Quite a few guys have seen great success with the TD05-20g 8cm housing on the 2.5 WRX. Your compression is slightly higher on the 06 Rex so will help down low....most graphs I've seen show this turbo to come on almost as quick as the VF34/P20 combo but with better top end despite if being non-ball bearing.

Personally, this would be my choice of turbo for an 06 considering it's a 95% dd.

considering its 95% daily, i'd go for a vf34 p20 or a TD-05 20G...would be great fun around town with the 2.5

how much does the 2.5 help the spool of a TD-06? i was seeing full boost on my 207 + TD-06 at around 5500 rpm, was great fun, if you dont mind a bit of lag.

It will be more than the motor and fueling will handle in a stock config anyway. Tried and tested with consistent results. 34/20 is the newest of the vf series that will provide ample improvement.
