Default brake whistle noises

got an my99

brake makes a whistling noise SOMETIMES when braking, as if the pads are almost gone, but i get the same noise as well SOMETIMES when i'm driving as well, like crusing at 60 and i get that noise too..

is it just my pads wearing out or is it something else too?

thanks guys.

likely indicates that the brake pad "wear indicator" (a thin metal strip attached to the pad that contacts the brake rotor when the pad is worn out) is functioning. your brake pads might be wearing out. i had that problem, and i was lazy to fix it soon, and i eventually had to machine the brake rotors too.

had similar symptoms with the my03 recently
in my case if i was steering even slightly to the left i would hear the squeal
it wouldnt necessarily occur under braking conditions

i ditched the stock stuff for dba4000 slotted rotors and ferodo ds2000 pads 3 weeks ago (44000kms). very nice combo.. brake performance is pretty impressive at the moment and could get better over the coming weeks as the pads settle in further

Is this the sound where it sounds like your breaking, but just cruising along at any speeds and makes the screeching sound? Well I've got it too. New pads, and machined rotors?

PS, have DBA 4000, and Bendix ultimate.

Cheers.

yea, drove the car today again and has the screeching sound when ever the wheels are rotating. so only time when i'm not getting the screech is when the car is standing still.

yea.. got DBA 4000 already, just need to get new pads b4 i fit them in,
i think i read it from this forum somewhere saying bendix ultimate is good, but ferodo 2500 is better?

where can I get rotors machined NOR (preferably cheaply)? Just bought a new set off of ebay and they come with a note that says that they highly recommend that they are machined before use.

i had the same problem as you, the whislting sound, went in to tenagah and got bendix ultimates on the fronts and ferrodo's on the rear, my rotors ended up having to be machined to, pretty sure tenagah sent them out to be machined, the process only cost 33 bucks or so, so aint a bad price.
