Default Motor and Gearbox swap

Hi All,

I currenty own a tired 94 Rex Wagon - Gearbox recently blown.

I have been trying to find pro's and con's of different STi transplants with hardly any success... even having trouble finding Specs on anything is difficult.

I have found two halfcuts i am thinking of -

V3 Sti late 96
V5 STi

Both low Kms, both coming with Rear Diff's.. the 96 coming with all interior and Suspension... (basically whole car)... However both these motors are quite old still. the other option is non Sti newer like a MY00 or something like that.

I have been to pretty much all the different garages around Perth and everyone has different thoughts... I am sure they are all viable...

Does anyone have any suggestion, ideas or comments on these options??

as above, you'll find issues fiting the dash, steering column etc from a 99 into your 94.

I haver heard the V3 is the best of the early ones... does anyone know the Specs.. only thing i have found is 280ps no torque ratings.. also heard the V3 Sti revs to 8000 rpm...

Having all the spares from he complete car sound the way to go..

Also does anyone know are the wiring looms the same i.e. is the motor and STI ecu going to be plug n play or will i need to lay the new harness too?

The plan would be to strip the entire car and swap the entire half cut over, motor, wiring loom, ecu, dash etc and it will all work happily together. V3 sti should be the last of the "closed deck" STI motors and handle a bit of boost & rev quite well.

Negative on the closed deck Jester. Possibly the STi Ra, but I had a V3 STi engine apart last month (original engine) and she was a full open deck. It had done a B.E. bearing and the bores were marked so it has now been re-blocked into a C.D. Legacy case. Not taking anything away from the V3 engine, I agree they are a good revvy engine and seem to be fairly strong.

Yeah, full open, like a N/A engine. Don't let that bother you though most people treat them as they are closed deck without any ill effect. Open deck is only really an issue on 2.5's with the larger (thinner) bores.
