My car at the moment has 225/45/17 91Y rubber on it. I can replace them with 91W or 94W can't I?

STI325V6 14-01-2010 11:00 PM

A few comments here about Tyre Rack, has anyone actually used them, and if so how was the service, shipping time etc.

cheers

pros: service good, shipping was 10 days over easter, price was good.
cons: wouldn't mark down my rims so i had to pay import duty

Giddyup 22-01-2010 07:58 PM

Well have just sent over a wire transfer for $967AUS for a set of 4 Pirelli Pzero Nero for the sti, landed at my door. Quite happy with that.

How are the Pzero nero when it comes to grip/wear wise? $967 is pretty damn good! Im willing to give them a go!

St George Tyres or tirerack.com?

I need some new shoes for my 17s asap! RE001s in 225/45/17 they want 250+ locally! Both St george and tirerack don't do RE001s.

Can someone explain the difference between the speed index also. Say 94Y or 94W....which should i be looking at?

RedMY01Owen 25-02-2010 07:29 AM

The number, say 91, is the load rating (how much weight the tyre is rated to hold). Try to keep this number close to the standard equipment, you can stray a rating or 2 up but don't go lower. The letter, say W, is the speed rating of the tyre. W means the tyre is ok up to 270kph, so more than enough. Most quality tyres will be way better than you need in this area.

Thx mate. According to Tirerack.com Pzero Nero are $128US each, and delivery will be approx $380 to australia according to one of the staff. Brings the total figure of $892 including delivery.

Will i have to pay import duty/tax when it goes from custom on our side?

Only if its over $1000 dude, you shouldn't have any import duty with that total

Taktics 25-02-2010 12:04 PM

Can someone confrim the above written by Swelly? Preferbably by someone that brought from tirerack or overseas.

Taktics 25-02-2010 12:26 PM

Totally! ill just do a checkout on tirerack and see if it is that figured in total.

Kato 25-02-2010 12:35 PM

Anything under $1000 AUD on the exchange rate day when it hits customs will be exempt.

So just hope the exchange rate doesn't plummet! :D

Yeah still hunting, was still thinking about the ku36's but I'm not 100% about using them as daily's. i hear they wear pretty quick, but i guess its how you drive them as-well.

JDM_STYLE 25-02-2010 02:53 PM

I got a shipping quote from tirerack this week and for
4 Tyres it's $220, now thaw friggin cheap considering
they're coming from the US.

I'll get some new shoes for the 204 when I get back from
my trip.

Looks like I'll be going the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs and I won't
be paying any duties/taxes to the gumbyment as it's appx $950aud
all up, sweet!!!

i probably steer clear of that unless u have another set of tyres dedicated for daily...wouldnt wanna be forking out another 800+ 6months down the track. They are a very good tyre, but i dont think is very practical...personally.

Still waiting on some replies on the Pzero nero!! C'mon ppl - i know someone must have them on here on their scoobyyy!

Taktics 25-02-2010 04:07 PM

4-5 days ago.

Make that 2days ago..just checked email!

BALISTC 25-02-2010 04:10 PM

Next tyres I buy are those P-Zero's from tirerack.. so damn cheap!

American Dave 25-02-2010 04:15 PM

I'm lovin the PZero-Nero's I got recently...super stiff :D

Taktics 25-02-2010 04:15 PM

Just looking at Yokohama ADVAN S.4 as well...they look solid.

Grip well in dry? Cant really ask u how they are in the wet..since it hasnt rained in like 2million years.

Are yours the Pzero Nero All seasons or just the plain Pzero Nero?

American Dave 25-02-2010 04:19 PM

who knows it never rains does it...previous PZero-Rosso were less stiff and reasonable in the rain for a daily driver.

edit: M & S AUD$1120 landed at my door in 3 days

This is the email I got on Monday from Tirerack regarding pricing.

"Hi Wayne,
*
I do not carry the 2nd tire you requested. Sorry. As far as the Z1 star spec it's $688 for 4 and Shipping on 4 is $204.75 and would make the total $892.75 for 4 tires shipped US dollars. Would you like to place the order?
*
Regards,
*
Rudy"

I made a mistake somewhere with the currency conversion
so the total at today's rate is $1,004.77aud all up, might
wait for the dollar to go up a bit then just grab em when
it totals under $1kaud, or just by 2 sets of 2!

This is what i got from them:

"Tak, I am sorry but we do not handle the RE001's. The shipping charges for (4) tires to Australia is approximately $380.00.

Thanks,
Henry"

He did say approx. so who knows. Whats Rudy's email! Mayb its better off speaking to him. :)

Dave: Are yours Pzero-nero all seasons or plain Pzero-nero? Thred patterns are slighty different in the middle of the tyre.

American Dave 25-02-2010 05:22 PM

Giddyup 25-02-2010 07:51 PM

Taktics 26-02-2010 10:18 AM

Just got this msg from them today.

"Tak, I will need your complete billing and shipping addresses and billing and shipping telephone numbers in order to get you a shipping quote. Please be advised that the only international credit card we accept is American Express.

Thanks, Henry"

I dont have a damn American Express.

JDM_STYLE 26-02-2010 12:07 PM

That's what I got before they sent out the final pricing, so
let's hope you get told the cheaper shipping like I did.

Ah, thought they would have like paypal or something! Thats kinda anal how they only accept american express...because sooooo much ppl aus uses american express.........

nikftw 26-02-2010 02:25 PM

So what other payment options are there? I'm looking at getting 4 new all season p zero neros in a few months time. (215/45/17)

JDM_STYLE 26-02-2010 02:28 PM

Pretty sure you can do other payment options!!!

I'll post up Rudy's email later, I'd say you'll get further
dealing with him!

Giddyup 26-02-2010 03:02 PM

I did a wire transfer all via netbank. Went without a hitch. They sent me all the relevant details I needed. Done.

American Dave 26-02-2010 03:15 PM

paypal should be an option I would have thought...my 18" PZero-Nero's from st george and they take paypal pretty simple really.

Taktics 26-02-2010 03:52 PM

Yeah, Henry seems like abit of a douche. He doesnt really answer what you ask him.

I was gonna ask you(JDM) for Rudy's email, he seems alot more friendly. When i get that, ill just pretend ive never spoken to mr douche.

Thanks Wayne? (i think thats your name :p)

JDM_STYLE 26-02-2010 05:18 PM

For all those interested in buying from tirerack here is a
guys email who has been pretty straight forward to deal
with and gives you the answers you want.

His name is Rudy Riedel

rudy@tirerack.com

Just let him know it's an international order and send your
full address with any quoting questions so you don't have to
send it later delaying any replys.

Hope this has helped.

Wayne
