Sounds like a wiring short from the AFM to the ECU.

As an example, at the moment my AFM is fucked and the car is running around in limp mode with the AFM socket disconnected from the intakke pipe. Now last week in Perth driving in very very heavy rain the car just completely died on the freeway at 5am.

Solution was to physically blow the water/moisture out of the AFM socket that was causing the electrical short circuit. Car ran fine after that - all be it still in limp mode.

Has the workshop checked the AFM wiring back to the ECU with a multimeter ?

autronics and can the afm

Are you absolutely positive they've checked the fuel pump. I'm betting thats the problem. I had exactly that problem on a V6 commo, car would only run (but barely), with the afm disconnected, and then stop when i hooked it back up. Turned out to be low fuel pressure, stuffed fuel pump.

hate to sound obvious but i would say either afm is rooted.. wiring is shorting somwhere or ecu has a few issues.. im an autosparky and that is wat i would be checkin first mate.

They have found the problem. There was a wire that was running from the AFM to a boost controller on the dash, which wasn't plugged in. When they cut that wire, the car ran fine again...Must've been a dead earth somewhere along the line.
