Why wont it start?

Alrighty boys n girls I got a mystery starting problem. Mech has tried to look at it but it wont do it for him and he cant see anything obvious, thought it was a starter motor issue but that's been repaired (they didn't actually find anything wrong with it cept a couple of connections and they got fixed) so now I'm stuffed if I know.

Whats happening:
I disarm the alarm, get in the car, key in ignition, put in my pin code, dash lights light up ..... all normal things... turn the key and I got nuthin. The fuel pump primes but other than that I get nothing. Sometimes I get the click sometimes I don't. Everything is lighting up, I can turn on lights, wipers, radio, aircon all that stuff. Battery is new and checks out fine.

I'm thinking it has to be either.....
*a connection issue somewhere?
*an alarm problem ... maybe its not disarming or something?
*an immobiliser issue?
*something wrong with my key in barrel?
*ecu problem?

The confusing thing is I can shut the car up and re-arm the alarm, disarm it again and go thru the process and still get nothing, I can wiggle and plug in n out and hit with hammers anything I like under the hood and get nothing. I can rock the car back and forth and push it up n down the driveway and put it in gear and any other random thing I have been told to try and get nothing. But then for no particular reason I can go out there and try again just get in and do normal start procedure and it will start like nothing was ever wrong.

So far there is nothing that seems to have any effect on whether or not it starts, it just decides to all of a sudden..... and once I get it started for the day I can go for a drive stop and turn it off and go do what ever come back get in and she starts no worries. Some days I go out there and have no problem then other days I do.

Anyone??? Anything??? Anything at all???

All input is much appreciated

Sounds like a seriously annoying problem. My L series does it sometimes, turn the key and get nothing. I've pretty much traced it back to the starter motor. Though it works often enough for me to keep driving it without fixing it.

Generally if it's the alarm the fuel pump won't prime.

I have a very similar problem ..

See this:

I have began using a brand new key, and so far so good ..

Sounds like electrical or the starter has shited again ...

Try push starting it i mean if theres full power everywhere but no start then it should jump over after a push..me thinks :)

is it manual or auto???

yer i get this once in a while with my liberty.it makes a tick sound when i try to turn it over?but everything seems to be fine.I replaced my spark plugs as they were flooded in petrol then it worked.that could be a problem.

Its manual.

Spark plugs are new, got new ignition leads on the way.

Mine makes no tick/click noise at all when it does it. Just absolute silence when the key is turned to the 'start' position, Only noise is the fuel pump priming, which is also a sign that the immoboliser is disabled and the motor is ready to start.

Eventually she just starts as per normal. Not a battery issue as th battery is able to power my radio, HID's, air con etc etc, and it eventually starts, so i'm at a loss.

Someone on Rexnet told me that Brandt also has something to do with the key. So if you have a hell rough key, you might have problems.

I kinda thought key, and I'm still thinking that getting a new one is worth a try, only thing that makes me think its not is that I have two keys and it doesnt make any diff which one I use. What are the chances really of them both being equally worn that they both cause the same problem.

This is all great stuff guys it gives me some direction at least. keep it coming.

I was a bit skeptical about whether the key would make a difference as well. As this is such a random problem for me, i couldn't 100% say at this stage whether it has resolved the problem.

So far so good though and i've been using the new one for 2 weeks now.

Does your car eventually start with no drama's?
