Default 04/MY05 Suspension Knock?

Hey there,

Just picked up my 05 STi on Friday, almost everything seems to be OK except I noticed a knocking that seems to be coming from the rear right wheel when I come to a stop or drive up onto something.

It is not only a knock, you can actually feel something moving around like a loose spring or possibly a strut that is not bolted in correctly. It sounds like it is coming from the boot, where the strut sits.

It does not seem to cause an issue whilst driving nor do I seem to get the noise whilst driving.

The car has lowered king springs on it, something which I intend to replace sooner rather than later. But I just want to see what people think this issue could be.

It is odd, because my auto inspector either did not pick up on it or thought nothing of it, which is odd cos he generally misses nothing.

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Known issues with inverted struts on 05's. Get them checked out and replaced by Subaru if still under warranty.

Also the diffs on the 05;s are pretty loud and known to clunk and bang away.

Do you think coil overs will fix the issue?

if its suspension related then yes. Long term fix would be coilovers.

I had a clunk from the boot in my 06 sti under heavy braking, but it turned out to be just the small tool bag next to the jack moving around. It could be that simple.

Yeah mate, already checked that, the toolbag is on the left, and this is coming fro the right - that said, I moved the toolbag anyways and it did not change anything.

As saturation has stated a well known problem with the 05's.

How much do you want to spend?
Will you be doing track work with the car?
etc etc

+1

all depends on your budget.

I recently priced up Teins and Cuscos for someone on here and the difference isnt much.
