now that is what u call a bug eye.

have run a TMIC (PWR) for years with around 1.3bar, no worries at all, havent even got a water spray.

Where your TMIC will fall down is summer city driving, if you are often travelling below say 50km/h and stopping at lights alot then dont expect much go from the lights, your TMIC will get hot to touch in about 30sec to 1min of sitting and idling. If it's a tube and fin then it will cool back down reasonably quick, (about 2min of speeds above 60, bar and plate a bit longer), on the fwy you will have minimal issues.

Front mounts have none of this and can cool more air faster, drawback is a bit more lag apparently, however, when you want to drive fast, you keep the revs up anyway..

re. tmic heat soak

my opinion with an 2004 Hyperflow and a throttle body temperature probe

1. Water spray does fuck all, maybe 2-3 temp degree drop if your lucky. a touch more affect running the factory cooler

2. Heat soak really only comes into affect if you are sitting at lights for more than 30-40seconds or if you park the car and come back to it. Sitting at a normal set of lights, i.e. not peak hour etc, I rarely see my inlet temperatures climb more than 1-2 degrees.

3. Heat soak (say 65 degrees+ inlet temps) usually dissapates within 40-50 odd metres

4. FMIC, surely its affected almost as much by heat soak when stationary for longer periods? its not that for from the engine

Apparently to a degree. But there will always physically be the extra length of pipework the air has to travel through, resulting in more lag (compared to a tmic).

argh, i see, cheers guys, the only reson i wonted to go top mount is so theres less attention, ie: looks stock.

front mount was one of the most noticable and beneficial mods i did, IMO they are shitloads better than TMIC especially in our hellish summers. I think next time though i'm gonna look into a V mount and maybe get the best of both worlds. and there was bugger all lag in my car. ask anyone that drove it

horses for courses really, heat soak utterly kills performance on a rex, seriously they run like dogs on 45 degree days, with a FMIC and intercooler spray there is almost no effect from heat soak. but it's one of those arguements that will go on forever.

best advice is try find someone with similar mods to you and try scam a drive back to back to compare (also try it in different temps) the difference is very noticable

also my car liked 20psi alot more with a FMIC than the TMIC with TMIC it really didn't want to push much more than 17

For a water spray to help with a TMIC you need to be moving. With 1.25 bar MRT B&P TMIC and track work my intake temps stay just under 45 c. Without the water spray they quickly head towards 60+. Max's max power is achieved @ 40-45c.
