It's been a while since I've driven a newer STi... but doesn't that temp probe give a readout somewhere on your dash?

If so, why not 'test' it by putting it near a warmer air pathway?? If the dash readout goes up... guess what the probe does my friend!!?

^^^^^ then you can mod the lower part of the snorkle as a tmic waterspray reservoir

are you sure that probe is not the 'outside air temp' probe, ie. nothing to do with your ecu?? I've never seen this before on gc8 wrx's

That is an air inlet temperature probe, all V6 STi's should have them. And yes it feeds a signal into the ECU.

Your best bet on a V6 GC8 is to remove the snorkel and run a modified PVC pipe from behind the right orange front plastic insert that sits below the right front indicator into the standard airbox.

Leave your air temp probe in place where it is if your running a factory STi ECU.

Pressurized air from the front of the car feeding into the airbox then to the turbo DOES decrease turbo spool up. The temp of this air will be the same as they are both sourced from the front of the car.

I have such a pipe I'm about to fit to my setup again. Your welcome to come have a look.
Its a DIY. Tricky bit would be the moulding of inlet to the pipe to fit snug with the front bumper.

my V3 STI motor has one too, when I put the in guard Bunnings intake similar to above onto the std air box I just poked it into the hole where the snorkus came through & sealed around it with some wetsuit rubber, it now reads the temp of the air inside the guard, been like that for 3yrs now & never had a problem
