Default Shocks

Hey guys, my WRX is still running the stock shocks and and I have super low kings fitted. The ride as of late had been very choppy (more than usual) which makes me think the shocks are worn out. I called Wilkinsons for a quote on some koni's and they quoted me over $2000!! I thought this was crazy. Is this about normal for some sports shocks? I want something that is adjustable but don't want to pay any more than $800, any suggestions? Car is an MY05 sedan btw.

ps. please don't say go coilovers, I want to keep my car legal.

Coilovers are legal, as long as you don't drop the car too low

A set of STi struts maybe an option,, KYBs, which are adjustable. But they won't be 800 at the current exchange rate

Alternatively, get a set of standard STi struts (not adjustable) second hand. Will be half your budget.

I assume the quote is for supply, fit and alignment
$1200? for the set
2-3 hrs to install, 3 x 70-80hr, 240
alignment, 150

that's a fair bit

KYB AGX's are adjustable from memory and go for about $1000 on ebay, get the part numbers and try coventrys.

PMH , using Koni's requires the inserts to be fitted into standard strut housings by cutting and drilling so really this is a 6 to 7 hour job plus wheel alignment. $2000 is probably a fair price plus it might also include springs.

Why do you want adjustable?

A cheaper option may be Tuned by Arai 4 way adjustables that I used to run. But you never really adjust them...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, no need for adjustable.... Standard KYB's will set you back around $700 from Covs at trade price.

The only reason I wanted adjustable is I sometimes have to drive long distances and would love to set the shocks softer during this period and set them harder for the occasional track day.

i stand corrected

RMS did do mine in the past, although i supplied the item and they did the installation and it was still below $2000 all up, this was 4 years ago though
