I've got a 4.5 kg aluminium flywheel in my MY98. I can't remember what brand it was, Locally made IIRC, been in there about 5 and a half years.

Pros = engine revs faster and spools up faster
Easier heel and toe downchanges, cause you don't have to use too much pressure on the throttle to get it to rev up.

It 'may' help with fuel consumption too. On a recent trip to Kellerberrin I did get about 8.5 l/100 km, which is the best I've ever got. although road conditions may have been a factor too

I have NFI if it's faster cause I haven't taken it to the drags, ever.
Gearchanges flow more smoothly when being driven hard though.
It seems to suit the AHG road circuit and skidpan,

Cons = Gear lash on the overrun, it can sound disturbing until you're used to it.

Lack of midrange torque, you really have to row it through the gears more.

The 'thumping' from the diff on agressive gear changes seems to be more 'violent'

There is quite a bit of driveline shudder when pottering around slowly

That's about it really, I'll edit this post if I remember anything else

Yeah, no worries, The biggest issue, (and it hasn't really been an 'issue' as such,) is the gear lash noise.

Basically on trailing throttle in 4th or 5th gear, at about 60-70 kmh, you can hear the gear teeth rattling, because the lightness of the flywheel means the gears aren't 'loaded' up against each other.

It sounds unnerving at first, and some people can't stand it, but I haven't had any issues at all with reliability.

I had an Exedy full face organic clutch put in at the same time as well. The only issue with that was, early on, I glazed it due to my crap launch technique.

But that's my problem alone.

I've got a Fidanza aluminium flywheel in mine...around 4kg or so.

Same deal as Pinky's.....awesome throttle response, has dropped a bit of "torque" though down low and the gear noise is crazy at first when you're off the throttle, but you do get used to it.

Heel toeing is a dream now with the light flywheel, when you blip the throttle, the revs blip too....instant response.

Ive got a Flywheel Chrome Moly 5spd from RMS + Clutch Organic H/Duty 5spd and must say its not at all what I expected.

Same as Pinky's and BALISTC's the throttle response is awesome and seems to spool up extreemly quick.

However I get the same problems listed by both these guys. Could be my gear changing style but yeah... Its not what I expected. Flywheel mod does change the feel of the car big time.

Gear lash noise.. I know exactly what your talking about LoL

The noise would only bother you if you knew there was a problem there, or didn't know what it was.

The fact that its normal when running a light flywheel, you tend not to worry about it after a while

I agree with Joe / Balistc, I was concerned at first, but once I had it explained (and confirmed by third parties) that it was typical for light flywheels, it didn't bother me, I actually like the sound now.

The "lack of torque" effect when going up hills, was more of a concern, actually.

Then I went to New Zealand, and realised that Perth doesn't have hills anyway
