Default Surge tank

I've installed my PW surge tank and tested for leaks by turning on ignition (didn't start car) the in tank bosch pump primes then turns off, the external 044 pump runs continuously, is this normal ?

Not normal.

Did you feed the pump constant power? Sounds like you did.

You need to have it relayed, using the original fuel pump wiring as a trigger.

No pump is set up with relay triggered by same wire as the original fuel pump relay. Probably didn't explain it well, when ignition is on original pump comes on then once primed turns off but the 044 keeps running, when ignition is off both pumps turn off.

Sounds like the relay isn't being triggered properly. Maybe its not wired up correctly?

If you're using the existing fuel pump wiring as a trigger wire for the relay, it should turn on and off with the in-tank pump.

The new pump does turn on and off with the existing pump I was just wondering if the surge tank pump will turn itself off once the system is primed or does it continuously run ? When the engine is running I guess it will continuously run but when I turn to ignition (don't start engine) the old pump would make a noise then stop once system was primed.

If you haven't already, you need to use the positive and negative wires from the intank fuel pump to trigger the relay. If you have used the positive from the intank pump and fixed the negative side of the relay to the chassis of the car, then this could explain why the pump stays on with ignition on.

The fuel pump controller is responsible for stopping the intank pump after a set period for priming. I'm pretty sure that this controller switches the negative side of the fuel pump to start and stop it.

Ok this makes sense, so I need to find the neg trigger wire from ecu, so the new pump will actually have 2 trigger wires, one from ignition (pos) then a second from ecu (neg) when system is primed.

Finished install, hey Wazza there is NFW that is 1hr job. I sorted the relay trigger, for some reason the wiring diagram I have (97 model) was different to the wire colours in my car , for reference there is a black yellow wire on the fuel pump relay (existing) that powers existing pump and turns off with ecu that I used to trigger my relay, now both pumps turn on and off together.
