Default clunking ?rear strut probs my03 sti

Heard a clunk for the 2nd time going up a driveway at a slow speed from the left rear strut today since having the car for a week (MY03 sti ~22ks on the clock).
I will bring this is up with Subaru service dept. Funnily enough i was there getting the user code on the keypad changed, and when i asked the service manager if he heard of this strut problem he said no !??Apparently it is quite a common fault in my03-my05 stis (reading on other forums)
Has anyone else experienced this problem here and did subaru replace the rear struts under warranty?

Yeah i have the same problem with my 2005 STI since it was new. I have yet to go see them about it.I have heard this is a problem with all models that have inverted struts.

How are you guys making the clunk happen? In my MY05 WRX (not STI ), I get a clunking noise when I put the clutch in at low revs. Usually this happens as I am going into my garage in 1st gear.

The reason I ask is that from memory the MY05 has the inverted struts as well (correct me if I'm wrong) and I also need to take the car in for a service soon, so I will ask them to have a look at this if it is a problem.

John.

Is it ok to leave it alone or is it damaging the struts?
its just such a pain in the ass dealing with subaru, and i dont really want to fork out for aftermarket struts/coilovers.
john, i have also heard that some my05 wrx's have the same issue as it also has inverted struts.

mine does it mostly when going really slowly around roundabouts
simple solution... go round faster no clunk

it also does it when parallel parking etc, basically only when going pretty slow, sometimes over speed bumps too i think
