Hey guys and gals,

It could be the poor audio quality but that doesn't sound like a dead big end bearing to me.

Possibly best idea is to confirm your worries with a reputable workshop,
rather than assumptions based on poor quality video/audio. |
yeah what they said, doesnt sound like it too me but might be early stages.

got oil in it? :P

Get a long screw driver and use it as a stethoscope.
Stick one end on all your rotating gear like alternator and power steering. And stick it between the alternator and AC compressor onto the top of the block. Put the handle against your ear and see where the noise gets real loud from. You can normally hear a bottom end rattle louder through the sump than you can from the top of the engine bay... And clean that oil up thats sprayed under your car... =) |
Sounds like top end noise to me?
Dropped a valve shim? |

cheers for the opinions guys....i was just about to drop the oil to confirm bearing particles in the oil, when my brother asked if the harmonic balancer was meant to wobble........who would have thought an apprentice mechanic could be useful :)
so it seems my issue was a very loose harmonic balancer, it had jumped off the key of the shaft. its chewed out the balancer...hopefully a simple replacement should fix the problem.. So has anyone got a harmonic balancer for a 99wrx, new or used. Thanks, Steve. |
