Exhaust Flange Questions
Am wanting to put my new 3" turbo back system onto my wrx myself, but first I need to get an exhaust shop to weld two flanges onto the new cat. That's cheap as to get done, but I need to tell him what angles to weld the flanges on so that the front pipe and middle pipe bolt up once they are on the car..
Am I heading for problems if I dummy the system up on the floor and see where the flanges will sit. Is it much safer to just pay him to fit the whole thing? He started talking about the front pipes being a biatch to change and I heard $$$ so thought just get him to weld the flanges ($40)... any opinons?? Cheers |

Front pipes??
If he means the dump pipe its a peice of piss. AntonRX fitted mine on his hoist in about 40mins.... dump pipe to muffler. Didnt even need to take intercooler off!! So tell the guy he's dreamin or take to other shop's till someone gives you a realistic price.

Probably best to get it done while on the car and it definitely pays to shop around for prices.
One place NOR (Far north, around Mindarie ) tried to charge me $300 to fit a dump pipe that bolted on to the original "cat back" system. On the phone they said around $150. Drove to whoop whoop and they then completely stuffed me around, the bloke was a rude arogant **** and then tried to charge me twice as much. Also cracked a sad because my car would be too loud In the end i just got Pat at Quikfit in Morley to do it for a fair price Sure they arent the most flashiest of places but its BASIC work thats hard to stuff up and he's happy to do what the customer tells him to do Last edited by Mat; 16-12-2005 at 09:47 PM. |

Thanks guys, car is booked in as it has become too much work for a DIY job. The new 3" HKS dump pipe for some stupid reason has a reducer to 2 1/4 inch welded on at the bottom (presumebly so a stock cat can be used) which will need to be cut off, the O2 sensor bolt hole is about 8 inches further down the dump than where it is on the current exhaust so the wiring will need to be lengthened. Also the new Metal Cat is really small, so some 3" piping will need to be welded on so the system will reach the hangers...
Way to much work and mucking around for a guy who has 2 screwdrivers and a shifter at home... On the plus side it should sound awesome and flow really well, the new cat has been bench tested to only cause a 10% restriction in airflow, most 'high' flow cats have been tested at between 40 and 50% restriction.. Full stainless insides too, no ceramic brick... Cheers Brett cheers |
