Get it checked out ASAP and try not to drive it until you find out exactly what the Engine light is telling you. I have had an Engine light pop up on me before and i took it to Osborne Park Subaru, who diagnosed it for me for free.

Or if you want to try and check it out yourself, you can connect up these two wired plugs (i forgot if they are the black or green ones) that will tell you what the Engine light is indicating through a series of 'long' and 'short' flashes of the Engine light symbol in the cluster. From memory, you just connect the plugs together, turn the key to ignition, and the Engine light sequencing will begin. The wires are located on the drivers side foot area, above the pedals. The plugs are not hard to find, they should just be dangling there, a black and a green pair.

There should be a key somewhere on this forum or on other WRX forums that tells you how to read the flashes, and what the unique sequences mean, just do a search. Hope this helps. Would suck for this to happen just before the weekend where most workshops that could help are closed ..

Yea, just found the plugs. It was 2 greens and 1 white. But only the greens will plug 2gether. Plugged them in n turned the key to ignition. Then the engine light keeps flashing short and the fan came on and off on and off. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Cheers

Just searched on the net, that if the CEL is on n not flashinb it is because of a emission problem. When I went to RMS last week they said that my cat is on the way out. So I m thinking that it might be the problem. But will still giv RMS a call on Monday. Has anybody had this sitation before?

I have the jaycar OBD-II code reader/clearer if you want to borrow it. And there is a sticky here on what all the code numbers are/mean.

I'm pretty sure you can't read codes on GD WRXs like you can on GCs.

Do you have an aftermarket up-pipe installed? If yes, I'd say its the up-pipe cat over-temp thats tripping your Check Engine Light. If you have a stock up-pipe, your up-pipe cat might be on the way out and its setting off the same light.

Get an OBDII reader plugged in and work out what it is. Once you find that out, you can fix the problem.

I m plannin on gettin a full turbo back exhaust soon anyway but just a lil bit tight on funds atm. So would it be still alrite if I drive it to work or uni for a couple more weeks? Cos Uni n work r both about 10 mins away from home? Thanks
