Varex Exhaust System

been looking at the varex exhaust system which allow you to change the level of the sound of the exhaust note. does anyone know much about these? good, bad etc?

Awesome... have one... let me know if you want to hear and feel the
difference. Car sounds sooo quiet when closed but can only make about 5psi.
Open it up and away we go. Awesome when cruising long distances or pulling
into home late at night.

yeh thats the issue im faced with at the moment. i come in late most nights and my neighborhood hates me and my mates lol yeh ill be keen to have a look in person. only seen that vid from ignition dvd from ages ago.

are you able to open and close the valve while driving or do you need to be idle or have the engine off?

I have a Varex oval muffler on mine and it sounds almost stock when closed and great when open with zero drone inside the cabin. I find it to be most useful getting home late and for those early morning cold starts that normally wake half the neighbourhood.

You can open/close the butterfly valve while driving - just stay off boost when it's closed, especially if your car is tuned for a high flow exhaust system.

Interesting, how much would one of these set you back?

Yeah mate they are illegal, I cant tell you the exact offence at the moment but traffic police are aware of the Varex muffler....

tuna 09-03-2010 07:14 AM

varex will make the car quieter then stock, you will definately notice the power loss when its closed.

open it up, its like a straight through 3", power is back to normal.

100% recommend it, especially so you dont have to drive every day with everyone looking at you like a hoon.

Never been pulled over. Having said that, I have a straight through
diff back replacement for the pits if its needed.

I also fail to see how its illegal.

tuna 09-03-2010 08:33 AM

ditto,
mufflers are not illegal.
