Default MY05 STI into GC8 shell

This idea came a while ago, seeing as there are a few completely farked GC8s on the market at the moment (i mean mechanically but cosmetics still ok) and i might have an access to 05 sti parts makes me think whether this is possible and if anyone's done it?

Firstly, I am mechanically minded and do my own servicing and simple fixes...havent dont engine transplants but thinking of learning it whilst doing this project.

Before I end up buying anything I'd like to know if I have a GC8 shell and strip everything out of it including gearbox, diff shafts etc and replace with 207, 6 speed + brembos...firstly is it possible? (dimension wise etc)

As I'm thinking of doing it myself labour costs dont come into it however if i have to do some re-fabrication/custom stuff what would the costs be involved?? I'm not counting the costs of both donors.

Short answer - absolutely possible.

There is a build of a white two door with jdm GDB spec C driveline, done about a year ago I believe.

GC chassis with weld in cage and gdb driveline = best combination. Be worth massaging the guards and making the most of the extra track and bigger wheel choice.

Physically, everything will bolt right in. Engine, gearbox, Brembos. No worries.

Wiring will be the only difficulty. Easiest way is if you are starting with a 05 sti front cut. Rip out the engine and dash wiring looms out of both the front cut and gc8 WRX. Put them in separate boxes and send it all to AM Auto over east. The two wiring looms will be joined together in such a way that it will bolt right into the gc8 and run the 05 Sti ecu with AVCS and still plug into all the accessories in the gc8 dash.

Though it would be pretty cool if you put in the extra effort to get the 05 STI dash to fit into the gc8.

It would be around $600-700 plus freight to move the wiring loom across the country

yeah, not too sure how the gc8 door cards line up with the gd dash tho?

+1 for DIY can't beat that feeling of pulling your car apart, ripping out the loom, then putting all new stuff in there & turn the key & it actually starts

took me about 5 weeks on chirstmas holidays doing a day here & a day there, still finding time to entertain the kids and mrs to stay in thier good books hahaha

as for matching the same colour wires up... isn't that simple unfortunately get wiring diagrams from your 05 sti and gc8 for wiring up all the additional stuff like the rear loom, abs sensors, fuel pump, airbags etc etc its quite involved when you think about it

This is not a full conversion including interior etc but Ben V5 over on rexnet did a 06STI spec C RA driveline swap into his V5STi quite successfully.

See his build here: http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index...opic=90550&hl=
