Default Sump Seal Leak = Bad Smell = GF :(

What's sort of cost are we looking at replacing the seals for the sump? Is it an easy DIY?

I do hope that's the cause of the leak, it's dripping onto the exhaust pipe and causing a terrible smell.

Car is my Girlfriends 92 liberty GX

Cheers
Fred

If its the seal for the sump, it "looks" like a fairly easy DIY (well on a WRX). The sump has about 8 bolts or something on it which come out easily enough, from there it would surely be a matter of just dropping the sump and replacing the seal wouldnt it?

I dont think the seal would be that expensive. Try Regents as I heard they can be cheaper than Subaru for some things.

If you have problems, call Jim Hall, from Bluestar Mobile Mechanics. 0413 900 796. He KNOWS his Subaru's and is an awesome mechanic that wont lie to you or feed you huge amounts of BS to get you to spend money.

Aslong as it is the sump and not the cam or crank seals leaking and blowing back then i think that it is just sillicone that acts as a gasket. Either way it shouldnt be too expensive.

Regards,

Tom

leaks towards the rear of the sump, not the timing belt side... so I think, will bring to mechanics to get onto hoist and find out

anymore help would be greatly appreciated. mat, gaskets are cheap i know, but it's the labour that kills you. thanks for jim's number, does he service up north of the river?
