Default Electrical Problems???

I dicided to plug the Scantool into the rex to check for any old fault codes. I had a look under the dash and found a connector plug, so grabbed the Subaru 9 pin connector which didn't fit, thats strange I thought, so I looked through all the connectors and realised that the Nissan/Samsung connector would fit. I proceeded to connect up the Scantool and everything was ok up until the point I switched the ignition on and the Scantool went dead. Turned the ignition off and the Scantool came back on. At this stage I realised that something wasn't right and then found the OBDII plug and everything work ok.

THE QUESTION: What on earth is this connector for? (It sits on the heater just next to the clutch pedal)

THE PROBLEM: Now the car idles erratic, don't know if an ECU reset will cure this?
