All a friction modifier does is make the oil more "slippery".

It won't completely eliminate the LSD action, but yes, it does increase the lock up point of the plates slightly to allow reduced noise during cornering.. that being said, my mates Cusco still painted plenty of lines after he put it in!

It's not bad for the diff whatsoever.. diff break-in oils have friction modifiers in them to prevent excess wear during break in caused by the high friction between the plates.

But you have to make the trade off.. do you want it quiet or do you want it to lock up a bit earlier? I don’t think it’s going to be a drastic change either, as mentioned above, the diff still works as intended.

I'd personally try it just to see.. you might even like how the diff works after putting it in, and if you don't, then you can change the oil out next time and go back to the way it was.

P.S.

You want to know why the Cusco oil makes the diff quiet?

http://www.cusco.co.jp/en/parts_prod...s/lsd_oil.html

It has friction modifiers added.

Joe i dont really mind the sound of it.. I thought that the fiction modifier actually made the diff work better. But i was mis-informed. The car already makes plenty of clunking.. hahah

I will leave it out this time and then may do it later.. but if sound is the only thing then i wont worry about it..

I was more shocked that a small bottle of anything Ford made could cost $75!

*shrugs*

Ran some off the shelf Castrol 80/90W.. after about 50km's the diff started to make some REALLY bad *tonk tonk* noises. It was fairly violent and people up and down Southport St in Leederville started looking at my car as if it were some bat out of hell.

I continued with it for another few days until i figured that a Cusco Diff should really use Cusco oil.

Diff was fine ever since, quiet operation, binds up nicely.

I'm all for finding cheaper alternatives , but that's just my exp with oils with this Cusco 2 Way RS unit.

Mitsubishi SST fluid is $120/L... And you need 10L...

As said by Jaron, it must come with Stig Piss in it.

Pete its the friction modifier in the cusco oil that makes it quieter.. i dont want to loose any benefit of the two may and can live with the clunk clunk of the diff.. hahah
