Default Replacing spark plugs

Hey guys

I want to replace my spark plugs and would like to know what special tools are needed to do the job. What should be removed to ensure a 'relatively' easy installation. My dads a diesel mech and will be giving me a hand.

Any advice would be appreciated

gapping tool, spark plug socket (for socket wrench).

A tool called Subaru .. lol... ya dad will prob be able to do it
but personally my self i would get someone else to do it
i havnt done it yet but from what i understand the wrx plugs are quite hard to get to.
thats why they are long life ones

I heard that it's quite a job. Does anyone know if it's better to go in from above or from underneath, by any chance?

Subaru EJ20T use platnium/irridium plugs that require changing only every 100,K but if your not sure how long ago it was done, you should locate/read a workshop manual.

The plugs are easiest to get to from the top. i would sugest removing the air filter box, and washer bottle (i think) so you can get better access. 2 12mm for the air filter box and 2 10mm for the washer bottle. There is 1 10mm bolt that holds in each coil pack.

It all depends on what model WRX you have!! some have Coils on top of the manifold and others have coils on top of the spark plugs (with should be held in with a 12mm bolt). either way you still need to check a manual for specs, gaps, etc....

Sorry, I'm not trying to put you off, its just I have seen too many people end up spending a s**t load more because the didn't follow the manual. It may sound silly as it only sound like a simple job (spark plugs, WHAT can go wrong) but believe me I have been working on Subarus since '87 and things do go pearshape!!!!

I have an 01 bugeye wrx (yes,the slow one...) I'm in the process of doing my 100k service so will also be looking at replacing the timing belt too.

It would most probably be easier to take it in but I would prefer to do it myself, as long as I have the right tools and know how.

Does anyone know where I can get a workshop manual for the 01 wrx?
