Question Engine model help

Hey there,
MsImpreza's partner hear.
I have her old wrx, and unfortunately shes squished her exhaust valves.
Anyways, We brought a EJ20T out of a 98/00, and our wrx is a 94/97 - I was lead to believe the engines are the same, when we got it home, they look similar, but are quite different.
My question... Will it work?
If not, does anyone know anywhere that i can just get a simple engine rebuild, the engine is out of the car and ready to go. My missus rang a guy today about a rebuild and he just bullshitted about everything and then quoted her $6150.00 and told her some long story about forged pistons, lucky shes got a brain and kinda went yeah nah thanks kbai... All it needs is replacment valves/springs and quick scim over and clean up and put back together again...

help? haha

thanks guys
Steve.
