The indicator is there so you know when to change your pads.

Most "Enthusiasts" will change their brake pads before this point as their cars are serviced a hell of a lot more regularly than say a Commo or Faclon.

Standard squeal can happen when "glazing" occurs on the pad. As everyone has pretty much stated on this post. A good hard brake session at hard speeds will warm the pads up and you'll probably find the noise will stop for the rest of the trip whilst the pads are warm.

Did u check to see if there are ne grooves on ur rotors. This can cause squeaking. Specially if it hasnt been machined in a while. Just had same problem. Thought was low on pads and it wasnt.

The wear indicator or "squeaker" is a metal tab on the upper side of the pad body on the side.... it's in alignment with the last 3mm approx of pad surface. If, when you remove the pad, the metal tab is flush with the remaining pad surface, then that's what causes the squeaking & it's time for new pads. Around $85.00 for fronts at Repco, did mine about 2 months ago.

my family mechanic which is pretty goood says the old brakes use to use aspestos in them that reduced the squeaking and most of the time there was no squeaking at all. but now seeing that they dont have aspestos in them for obvious reasons the cheaper brakes squeak and the more expensive ones have a special product in them that minimizes it. dunno dude best thing ya could do is get them changeed and see how ya go

What pads are standard on a MY05 wrx? and what pads would the dealer (I also go to Ossie Park) replace with?
