WRX Upgrades
hey i was just wanting to know your experiences with pod filters. i am going to install a pod filter and i was wondering what the best brand is for max performance. also is it better to install a cold air intake or to get the tube that runs through the front quarter pannel and comes out where the drivers side spot light sits which would be removed of corse. my concerns for this are that i would have to take it out if i install a front mount if it was justified. dose anyone know how much the stock wrx intercoolers can handel?
thanks to anyone who can help |

If you are just going to put a pod filter on, then you are going to get just as much performance out of the standard air box with an upgraded panel filter. if you want more performance then cold air induction system would be the go i think?
also you depending on what year your car is, some types of filters have sometimes been know to mess up your Air flow meter, being oiled. dunno if that is true or not? |

I was told that problem was fixed with the 01 onwards. Go see rob from speedworks. They told me of a panel filtre that worked really well.

A good CAI couldnt be a bad thing if it helps the engine breath better..
I have a HKS POD and regret spending like 200+ on it due to the fact that the K+N is probably better and a lot cheaper.. K+N make panel filters as well but a CAI with K+N POD and heatsheild will work well on a street car! |

There is nothing wrong with the standard box & air filter, just get rid of the intake system & put a 90mm cai into your guard with a couple of bell mouths in the right place, it'll cost you about $10 and work just as well as a pod, you just won't have the wank factor.
