Blinking engine light '05 Impreza GX
Hi all.
I have an '05 Impreza GX wagon (pig nose/hawk eye) with a new problem. My battery died a while ago and I had it replaced. After I had replaced it the battery, my engine light started blinking. I have taken it to Subaru Osbourne Park to get my computer reset, thinking it would solve the problem, but it didn't work. History on the car: -Bought from Pickles auction in mid October 2010. -Been using 91/92 octane fuel, says "premium recommended" since it didn't say "necessary" I just used Regular. Seeing how things are now, I deeply regret this and feel oh so durrrm. -Car was impounded for a month(Hush, I obey the law now) -Tried to juice car up with jump starts, chargers etc -During this time, a friend of mine plugged in a cable he found disconnected underneath the glove box on the passenger side. -Battery turned out to be completely dead -Replaced battery and brass clamps to fit the sucker on. -Engine light showed up, blinking. Car idles at low RPM (around 750). When stopping it can sometimes drop to 0 RPM and stall. -Took it to Subie Osb. Park, thinking it just needed a Computer reset. Not the case. Needs full diagnostics. -Been told by some that it's a misfire. Any pointers as to where to start fixing the problem and further advice with maintenance so it won't happen again would be really appreciated. Thanks. - |

I would ring up the dealership and tell them about the plug you found, they should be able to tell you what its purpose is and whether it needs to be plugged in or not. Did you managed to write down the amount of times the light was blinking? Quote:

unplug the green connector's under the dash! They are diagnosis mode connectors and are not supposed to be plugged in. They are pale green 2 pin in a 'T' shape. I can't believe OP SUby doesn't know this, thats ridiculous.

If the CEL light is still on, get the code read by a workshop or Subaru. Then there is no guessing what the fault is. Also, fill your car with the correct fuel!

Holy sweet disco zombie Jesus on a pogo-stick. Thanks for the help, guys. I'll give everything a shot. Should I just run 95 octane or 98?
Also @Soksta: the light was just continuously blinking. It didn't stop. Just a continuous blink. This forum rocks. |

Check your manual.
It shouldn't make too much of a difference in a GX, but you may get better economy running a higher octane fuel making the price difference negligible.
