[review] Exedy 6 Speed Racing Clutch Stage 1 Heavy Duty - #15803HD
Exedy 6 Speed Racing Clutch Stage 1 Heavy Duty - #15803HD
[around $550USD delivered from Swerve Motorsports USA] So finally the new clutch has arrived and installed. (thanks mister two for the recommendation), great price including delivery from the US, not sure what this clutch is a equivalent of compared to the clutches offered in Australia as the part number is different. its rated at 40% stiffer then the stock clutch, however australian delivered clutches only have 4 sets of springs where this one has 6 sets. Updates will be posted as I go. Other items changed at the same time: Brake Fluid: Endless RF650 Clutch Fluid: Dot 4 castrol brake fluid Gearbox oil/Diff oil: Royal Purple Max-Gear 75w90 OEM flywheel machined Rear crank bearing seal replaced ($44 from your local subaru dealer) thrust bearing replaced (came in clutch kit) flywheel bearing replaced (came in clutch kit) Alternator belt: OEM ($44 from your local subaru dealer) The write up: so far still in the bed in period of the clutch which is a recommended 600km by exedy in normal driving conditions (not highway driving). Initially the clutch was quite stiff and had a lot of shudder and was quite difficult to drive smoothly however at the km racked up the driving feel has gotten a lot better. There is significantly more bite then the standard clutch and definitely smells different too. Initial impressions: - heavier clutch pedal - fantastic pedal feel and clutch bite - has some chatter (mainly in reverse when trying to crawl) - smells different to the original clutch

haha yeah, how did it compare to the cerametallic 3 puk you have for sale? I almost bought that one actually but its a bit overkill and cushion button
i'm sitting on 130km with the new clutch so far, its recommended not to go over 3500rpm until its past the bed in period

haha. not over 3500rpm... I dropped a dozen 6K launches within 100km of putting this clutch in.
That 3 puk is too much for a daily. It eventually went to a new owner with a track car.

haha thats probably why you bed yours in as quickly as it did. Just I don't want uneven surfaces and to overheat it just yet. when my original clutch came out. It was a nice heat treated blue haha.

oh I forgot to mention, the clutch pedal seems to have settled or something? Its not as stiff as it was when the clutch was first installed. The engagement point is spot on and its becoming more bearable in stop start traffic too. However you have to rev it above 1800rpm if you want to take off smooth.

Nah. Have you noticed your left leg is more muscular since the clutch went in?
Stepping on a OEM clutch is like stepping on a marshmallow now.

haha, well all most of my mates drive hondas and even compared to my stock clutch they felt like marshmellow. Oh on a side note, the 06 STi clutch pedal (stock clutch) was significantly lighter then mine (when it was stock) which I found odd as the gearbox and stuff should be the same unless Subaru did some tweaking to the hydraulics as I had heard that people had been complaining about stiff factory clutch pedals.
