Lifespan of forged pistons

Gents,

not strictly a wrx question but does anyone have any data or knowledge on how long forged pistons last?

Im about to strip down the RB25 and the aris pistons have done about 60,000 km.

Thoughts and advice?

i feel a blanket answer for your question will be very difficult to come up with

They should last the life of the engine, eg, as long as they are not detonated or dusted, they will last as long as regular pistons.
Remember, 207's have forged pistons, and there is no specific differences to maintenance for those vehicles.

It's a built motor....Not a stock RB.

If it's been a healthy 60,000km with minimal detonation they should be good to go, but....

If it's dropped a cylinder, like you think it has, and it was caused by a lack of fuel (dying pump or fuel surge) they may be fugged....It takes quite a bit of det to kill quality forgies.

Box-a-chocolates time....You never know what ya got until you lift the lid.

How are those 272's btw?

Cue photos of Tristans ex-SST Wolf 3D stock injector 500rwhp RB25 forgies :)

Unsure of the reason of no compression . Will find out this weekend. Not afraid to swap them out if needed.

272's go check the happy thread and then dak dak dak dak doink thread. :-)

You didn't say it had no compression...
I stand by my previous statement, whether the engine is 'built' or not, if they aren't taken out of the safe zone, they will last as long as any other engine part.

It randomly dropped 1 cylinder.....for good.
