Either an air leak at the bov flange or the silicon / plastic joiners attached to the y pipe

Best bet with the sound you are describing, be sure to check all hoses and seals for any kinds of leaks, soapy water? :P

Erghhh Palm/Face.

What year WRX is it?
What brand is the TMIC? your fitting it... You must know?!?
Like the above posts said: check the Y pipe under the Intercooler and also check the pipe connecting the intercooler to the throttlebody.

Is it second hand? Could have a busted fin or two.

Post up some pics.

All else fails do what TJ said.

I had same issue with my MY00 wrx. I re-used to bov gasket as the local subaru dealer didnt have any in stock. After install I also got a whistle when turbo was on boost.

Few days later the gasket arrived and once installed, no more whistle.

So yeah can almost guarantee that it is your BOV Gasket, if You re-used your old one that is.

^^ Yeah as the others have said, the bov gasket is usually the problem or a pinched/split hose from the turbo outlet or the throttle body!

Q: Everyone advising to use soapy water to find leaks? Doesn't this mean on idle we have negative pressure so it would be sucking in the soapy water?
