Default hub centric ring

To fill in the gap between the hub of the car and the center bore of my rota wheels, I bought some hub centric rings in steel.

This seems like a stupid question but which side do you put the flat face of the ring towards? The other end of the ring is tapered..

Using this guide I'm going to assume the flat face is towards the hub and tapered towards the wheel bore?
