Default rattling noise from turbo on cold starts

hello,

recently when i start my car, sometimes even when it's not a cold start, and i rev to reverse or whatever, i can hear a slight rattle which is coming from the exhaust and seems to be in time with the turbo spooling (it's a td04 so obvs it spools a little real quick).

you can hear it on deceleration too if the revs are high enough, just a slight rattling which seems to me like it matches the turbine spinning

are these signs shaft play?
car is slightly more laggier but i haven't noticed a huge difference in top end (because it has none anyway)

I've heard major shaft play with bigger turbo's HKS2835 and they sound a lot worse, but then again they're much bigger turbo's
bear in mind the turbo's done 260 odd thousand km's now

thanks in advance

**
also it disappears once you've been driving it for long enough, i.e it heats up

I'd check the heat shields first. They can get a nice resonance up and rattle away.

yeah the lower heatshild it held on by a couple of bolts that also holds the top heatshield, if you're missing the top one it could be the lower one rattling

I had the same noise a few years back on my old bugeye.
- was my clutch on its last legs - few days before it died.

If your clutch is ok I'd be checking all bolts and sheilds (put your head under the bonnet and get a friend to rev it/start it do what ever)

deffs not the clutch, it's coming from the exhaust and you can hear it, sounds like a turbine spinning on a rusty bearing

checked the washer on the waste gate and it's not that
