Hot inlet manifold = hot air going into the engine which isn't really good. I think for the price your paying it's well worth the effort.

So the header tank is full of hot water and you've moved it further away from the manifold to keep the heat away from the manifold. Yes?

Yes, the heat from the header tank transfers into the manifold same as the heat from the block and heads transfers into the inlet manifold.
Having said that the plastic header tanks arnt as bad for heat transfer but on the down side being plastic iv seen them crack as perish a lot quicker than the metal counter parts

I've seen other people move the header tank to the driver's side strut tower for a variety of reasons.....Nothing silly about it.

thats a bloody good idea if you ask me, there would be fuckin heaps of heat in the header tank transferrring to the inlet mani, have you bypassed the coolant lines to the throttle body too gav? i'm a big fan of that too for keeping the intake temps down
