Default smells like burning coolant

help please.

hey guys,

lately ive been smelling the sweet smell of burning radiator fluid however i cant see any external leaks in engine bay or under the car.

ive recently had new silicone hoses fitted and none of my hoses are leaking or cracked and i thought it could be the smell of the silicon warming up... but i dont think so.

i havent had a chance to check the level once cold yet... but i have a feeling something isnt right. the car is overall running fine..hitting boost and idling normal. any ideas? im hoping its not the head gasket... i just got new oil and coolant replaced 4 weeks btw and no traces of the fluids mixing.

any advice or tips would be great - cost effective preferrably.

there seriously isnt any fluid anywhere... my engine bay is kitchen plate spotless....

when the car was running my coolant tank was below low!! dont know if that helps everyone. no cracks in the bottle either.

I'm guessing some spilled when putting on the new hoses and just smells when it gets to temp.

check the lines to the turbo, the low one down near the up-pipe could be leaking, it will drip down & evaporate so you won't physically see it leaking but you will see a reduction in your top tank

Not the radiator itself? Got a split or crack?

When they replaced it they didn't spill it?

they did spill some, when the old hoses came off, but i would have assumed...since then 4 or so weeks ago it would be all smoked and burnt off my now ?

il check the bottom turbo hose...i did before but as you say i prob didnt see it...the car was on when doing these checks also. il need to fill it and see if its drops again..im onsite at the moment. when the car was running my white bottle has no fluid in it ? normal ? im hoping its that simple...how much is a headgasket these days with fitment ?

cheers

yea im a bit worried aye. my mechanic mate rekons for the way the car is running it cant be head gasket...and i should go to a radiator specialist and aget a pressure test done on the cooling system etc... instead of jumping to comnclusions. il check my turbo hoses first unfortunately i have to take my top mount off again and i friken hate doing it LOL. im also considering topping it up with distilled water ? and see if the level decreases over the week or so. i dont know enough about it but head gasket means engines out and fuckin around. anyone had HG issues here before?

good news - took it to balcatta radiators.

did the head gasket test - definately not that so phewwwwff
my overflow tank was empty so all my fluids were in engine...
put about a litre of distilled in.

looks like it wasnt bleed properly before - wait a week or so - see if level drops - rebleed and top up - possibly check waterpump for vapours over headers. car is driving reliable and im in process of purchasing turbo. just need to wait for tuners.

thanks all
