Default Plated LSD info

Just wondering if anyone knows the main differances between the STi 2 way plated LSD and the Cusco branded one?
Have tried to search but no joy.

I am running a 2 way plated sti in mine and I know someone with a cusco item I have found the sti one is not as harsh and a bit user friendly

Thats what i thought. Can the STi type be re-shimmed to get a similar effect?

STI plated just doesn't lock up quite a quickly, but mash the loud pedal and they are both doing exactly the same thing. They both clunk and chatter but STI is quieter at low speed

Cusco Plate LSDs have more clutch plates than STI LSDs. They lock up faster and hold it lock better as you are pouring in torque through a corner.

They are also adjustable between 1.5 way and 2 way action.
Kato likes this.

My RA has a Cusco 1.5 and it is fairly clunky until locked up (though better when Red Line oil was replaced with Motul) ...still is race car so doesn't matter but would hate it on a road car.

Had the Cusco 2 way on my old MY05 and it was a fantastic diff. But as everyone said it is clunky as all hell at slow speed corners. i.e. you get funny looks at the shopping center.

I now have a STi 2 way in my MY98 and it is the perfect unit for a daily driver imo. Easy to drive, no noticeable extra noises.

One thing I have noticed is with the Cusco unit, I would get mega lift off over steer (probably a lot of tank slapper videos of me on youtube ) where as the STi unit doesn't have this effect (feels more like a 1.5 way almost). This is the biggest difference imo and if the car is more road going, I'd pick the STi unit as it is hard to keep the foot in to avoid the lift off oversteer if you have an oopsie on the road. If you can fix that link between the brain/foot... I'd go the Cusco unit as it just felt so impressive to drive.
