Default Lug Nuts

With all the different aftermarket wheels these days, I am sure not everyone wants to use those "one size fits all" type of lug nuts especially if you have expensive set of wheels.

So when it comes to things like depth, slope angle, etc..... how do we find out what the best (safest) for our aftermarket wheels?

Talk to your local tyre shop Ben....... STAY the hell away from Super Cheap if you want to go and replace all wheel studs.....

Ben, I think you will find with the more expensive aftermarket wheels -Prodrives, Volk, Rays, Advan, etc that they do not recomend using std lug nuts as the taper at the rim is different as they use a different contact area....
For those wheels I think you need to consider aftermarket lugnuts from the manufacturer but they are not cheap - Rays lug nuts are around US$120..
I am getting a set of Muteki spline drives made from 1008 forged steel weigh about half the weight of std lugs but not quite as light as Rays but only $US40.

Just a warning about alloy wheels nuts. If you intend to retain the standard steel studs ensure you are using high quality alloy nuts or change your studs to alloy studs. The standard steel studs can easily strip the thread from cheap alloy nuts. No thread = nothing holding your wheel on!

yeah i am getting the rays engineering nuts but they said it's fits most models so i am just wondering do i need to specify what car and wheels i am using when ordering those rays lug nuts?

btw. i am getting them in for about US$115 in the next couple of weeks if anyone want some and tag along to save some freight, pm me.
they are 0.8oz each compared to 2.1oz for the stock pieces, so a massive 26oz saving over 20 pieces!

Are they the race spec nuts, basically the big ones so you can use your fingers when you have gloves on?

Might get some to save ~730g
