Default Header upgrade...Worth it?

Headers, worth it?

Seems to be a lot of talk about this lately... Some for, some against...
First of all please do not post drivel in this thread. We want this thread to be an informative and actually useful. Preferentially with some real facts/data

From my internet research it seems the boys in the US of A are getting some good gains on the factory STI turbo by upgrading the factory header.
We know what their dynos are like. So I am sure we would all like to see, what gains if any are available in Australian dyno terms.

What I am looking for is comparisons showing before and after dyno results or secondly people with 1st hand experience. I am personally am most interested mostly in mid-range torque gains (area under the curve) and spool changes from equal length headers.

From reading discussions in other threads the conclusion seems to be that there is not much (if any) to be gained from upgrading the factory Subaru twinscroll header (at least on the standard turbo). This discussion is not about that, this is for non-special Subarus with the standard header.

Short answer.

No.

More gains can be made elsewhere. Imo, it is the thing you do to extract that final 1%. This only applies to equal length headers. UEL will provide bugger all gains, just a different exhaust note.

More gains can be had by upping the boost.

Opinion noted.

We all know how much you love silly boost pressures. Some of us have 2.5l engines and do not like that much boost.

I have heard that people after replacing the header, have made the same power on lower boost levels.

when i fitted some xs power equal length headers to my old foz running the vf22 if definitely reduced spool up time, i don't have back to back dyno reading as proof tho

Does it make the exhaust note sweeter or crappier?
I've had a mechanic tell me not to bother with headers on turbo cars..I wouldn't know but that is
what he said.

I disagree, I have never bothered with them previously but put unequal headers on the car with the new turbo and it was back to backed with the same model car and turbo etc but no headers with the same tuner and there were gains under the curve and better spool.

As I said I was a skeptic but now think they do have some value but would be wasted as a standalone mod

First hand experience is welcome but it is only an opinion. Facts with data are what we need.
