Default Symptoms of a worn centre diff?

As above, just wanted to know if there were any tell tale symptoms. Also any simple tests that one can undertake to determine the diff's health? I know you can stick it on a dyno and see what percentage torque is going front to rear, however it's a bit difficult for me to to get to a dyno atm.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Darren

The quick summary from me is: handling gone to absolute shit, fronts spin up easily when you launch.

in my case it popped the snap lock ring out the back of the centre, which fed itself through the drop gears, it started to sound like a dog box..

Be careful these symptoms are not just for the centre diff. They could also indicate a worn clutch as the torque split may spin the front but clutch slip before driving the rear. Just had the exact same symptoms on my 99 and it was a shagged clutch.

do you mean the clutch in the centre diff?

thats the only clutch thatd have any effect on the torque split..

if the normal clutch for changing gears was stuffed you wouldn't have bias issues..

if the viscous clutch pack in the diff was stuffed, you just slap in a new centre diff

Yes thats what you would think...but the symptoms were not. As you load up for a launch the weight transfers to the rear. Caused the main clutch to let go slightly whilst the front spun with less load. Rivet marks in the flywheel and it still hooked up enough for the March MC, albeit with these symptoms!
Unless the centre diff is still faulty It seemed to launch pretty well last weekend with a new main clutch but you never know.

Thats exactually what mine sounded like. Mainly in 1st gear drive to 40 kms then back of the throttle and sounds like a Doggie box......
