push to pull ORC
Hello from across the pond...
I am in need of some help, I'm just finishing putting together my project; wagon fettle - Page 47 - ScoobyNet but have run into a show stopper; part of the pull conversion kit is missing from my ORC clutch and ORC no-longer manufacturer them I don't suppose anyone has any suggestions as to dealers that may have one in stock or a second hand one or a way to make it work?! Thanks in advance, Ian |
Ian, What's the issue?
I assume you have a WRX pull type transmission and are attempting to fit a twin plate push to release clutch? If so, the conversion mechanism is clunky and horrible. I would suggest two options. 1/ delete the entire release mechanism, the fork, the pin, the slave cylinder etc. and set up a concentric hydraulic release bearing. It's a bit of work but worth the effort. I made the setup in 'trainwrex' if you know the car? (if not search it on here, you'll be impressed) In Australia they are available as a replacement part for V8 Holdens, in Europe try a Saab one perhaps? 2/ Not as cool as the above option but you could re-case your transmission into a MY06 onwards Push to release 5MT gearbox case. (Ignore this option if you're using a 6MT) |
Have a conversion kit in stock.
Have you enquired with ORC yet? If you have a part number of your clutch, do let me know.
Hello from across the pond... Yes. The owner was adamant nothing short of a 10" diameter AP racing twinplate clutch was up to the task. So we made it work.
I'm not a fan of using a push clutch where there are plenty of good options that do not involve re-inventing the whole release mechanism. As I said earlier, the pull to push mechanism is far from elegant. To me, they (ORC, OS Giken etc) already had twinplate clutches already in their catalogue and they simply manufactured a flywheel to suit a Subaru and an adapter linkage to make it (sort of) work. |
I will have to have a wade through that...it looks even bigger than my project thread :o :D

One of my mates work for Ogura ORC in Japan. You have PM,
