Plastic bag sucked in turbo!!
Hi all, let me start off by saying I'm a noob.
Just bought an sti and was degreasing the pod, so had a plastic bag over the intake to prevent any access of foreign material. Anyways was at work and one of my parents started her up without knowing that there was a bag instead of filter on, no points for guessing wat happened next... apparently an air filter sitting on the bench is not enough of an indicator to not drive the car. The blade spins fine but I think one is bent. I'm taking it off tonight and sending it in to get looked at tomorrow. Wat are some other things I should do to be sure this doesn't fuck anything else up? Last edited by American Dave; 08-08-2013 at 03:37 PM. |

If it made its way threw the turbo. Id be checking your intercooler for plastic fragments

How do you know the blade is bent if it spins fine?

You can visually see bent impeller fins at the front of the turbo would be my guess. Hard to see that though on an EJ without pulling the whole turbo out, or using a camera.

How did the bag make it past the stainless steel mesh air flow meter screen?

The car isn't stock, has front mount, bigger turbo and big ass intake. I can see clearly to the turbo and put my hand down there. Still spins smoothly but the blades are Definately fucked. I have half got it out just a cpl bolts being a pain.

I found out it was driven (not hard) just under a km. wats the chance of the engine sustaining major damage in this scenario?
