Default Cobb SF Intake System

Hi, quick question regarding a Cobb SF Intake. I have a friend who is selling his 2006 WRX and is parting out a few of the parts on the car beforehand and he has offered me this as I have the same year car.

From what I have read you don't need to tune your car after installing one but I have very limited experience in regards to mechanics so was wanting to get peoples feedback from those who installed one or something similar on their cars. Is it worth it on a stock car (which mine is) and have you had problems with the car once it has been installed? I have also read differing advice on whether they are legal or not so clarification on that would also been appreciated.

Insults and name calling are welcome aswell.

i put this same exact one on my 06 wrx. just gives you a cool induction noise and no you don't need a tune.

edit: i have no idea about installing shit but the instructions on cobb's site were pretty easy to follow regarding installation. for my first DIY it took me a lot longer than it should have....however it turned out perfect

As long as its bolted down and secure (not floppin' about), it'll be fine.

umm, yes you would require a tune. Don't be fooled by the fact the diameter of piping is the same as the OEM pipe. These let in LOTS of air.

I was the first on here to buy one for my '08 and Sean (ASG) just could not tune my car with it on. It prompted Pete/Intra (the creator of Verso) to make a few software adjustments for ASG and they can now successfully tune the 2.5L engines with these and similar CAI kits. Personally I wouldn't risk it.

I have the APS 65mm one on mine, which goes in-guard, it was something which required a tune.

Thanks for the replies, good to hear from the people who have had them or similar installed on a car.

What do you plan do with your "old" intake?

If I get the Cobb intake I would probably keep the old one. It has been recommended I keep all the old parts just in case. Hence my old exhaust is stuck in the shed.

The 08 COBB Intake and the 01-07 Cobb intake is totally different.

Yes any mods to the cars should always get a retune..

BUT the 01-07 DOES NOT require it to run or to drive.
on the other side of the coin, the 08 onwards DO REQUIRE A RETUNE and SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN with out a retune and will cough and splatter untill it is tuned.

COBB Intakes for people who are not 100% used to them do take a while to tune it.. Took MSR 3 hours to get it perfect, but now that he has done it... its easy.
